What you'll find
Terraces and older houses around the square and main street, established estates, several newer developments on the edges of town, and rural houses and farms across the drumlin countryside towards Saintfield, Spa and Dromara.
Who buys here
Young families and first-time buyers priced out of Carryduff and Lisburn, commuters to Belfast, and people who want more land or a country house within reach of the city.
Getting about
There's no railway. The A24 runs north through Carryduff to Belfast, usually around half an hour or so away by car.
Mortgage points to note
- New developments. Reservation fees, incentives and build delays all affect a new-build mortgage. Make sure your offer will last until the keys are ready.
- Commuter budgets. Lenders include regular costs, such as car finance and travel, when working out what you can afford.
- Country homes. Private water, septic tanks and land beyond the garden all affect which lenders will lend and how they value.
- First purchases. Many homes here sit under the first-time buyer stamp duty threshold. Co-Ownership is another route in.
